ok, i seem to have problem with the program (maybe bugs?)
from what i understand, you can save your project views, which are snapshots of your current setup and configuration, what layers are on etc.
for some strange reason, one of the layers keeps switching itself off after i have saved the file and closed it. I have even made sure i have re captured the view before saving it again. whenever i open it again, that layer is not visible anymore and i have to go and manually put it back on for the view, also the altimeter dimensions resets themselves to all zero, i have to reassign where zero is!
are these bugs? because they sure are bugging the hell out of me!

By your description it looks like they are bugs. Please keep in mind that the version you are using, 1.7fc5 I guess, is pre-release software and it does contain bugs.
Since the release of fc5, we squashed a few bugs in the new project views, so chances are the issues you reported are solved already. One of the fixes was related to views not updating properly for layers pasted from other projects.
Anyway, we do welcome feedback and reports about this version.
