PDFs in Mavericks

Post by matthew.Stanfield »

I have recently been experiencing some problems with PDFs associated with HD in Mavericks. I cannot create PDFs from HD, though i can from any other program. Nor can i open PDFs that were originally created from HD using PDF Pen or Preview. They will open with Adobe Reader, i can view them in my browsers (safari and chrome), and the preview shows up in Finder.

I can still create and view PDFs on my laptop running Snow Leopard.

I have tried repairing permissions, but am still having issues.

Has anyone else experienced any problems creating or viewing PDFs from HD in Mavericks?

Update: I can now open PDFs regardless of what program they were originally created from, but i still cannot create PDFs from HD.

I have no problem creating PDFs on my MacBook which is still running Snow Leopard. But my iMac running Mavericks will no longer create PDFs from HD. It goes through the motions as though it is creating the PDF, but the PDF is never created. No error messages or anything.

I don't use Mavericks, but I know that Swift Publisher 3 (which I use daily) running on Mavericks also has issues exporting a pdf - these are unresolved. It may be a Mavericks issue rather than HD. Have you had a look in Apple support forums?

I did a quick look in the Apple forums, but did not find anything particularly relevant. I will poke around in it some more later when i have a bit more time.

I was able to print to PDF from HD in Mavericks when i first upgraded. It has only been a recent problem. So, in trying to figure out what could have changed, the only thing i can come up with is the removal of my old Canon printer from my printer list as it is no longer functioning. I still have an HP printer and i can print to. But not all the text is printing.

After some further experimentation, it seems i may have a corrupted file. I am able to generate PDFs from some older files now.

Update:

I removed my HP printer from the list of printers and then reinstalled it using the most recent driver from HP. That has fixed the PDF problem. However, i can still not get it to print to paper correctly. It prints shifted to the upper right corner. So the bottom left corner of my print area is roughly in the center of the paper when it prints.
