"May 2018 marks the 15th year of development of HighDesign. When it was introduced, HighDesign was a light-weight CAD tool intended to assist professional designers in their every day tasks. It ran natively on the relatively new Mac OS X as well as OS 9 and featured the fundamental drafting tools plus a couple of more specialised functions..." That's big news! BIM is of little interest to me as a sole trader involved in small residential projects, but I fully accept it is coming (indeed has arrived) and has it's place, but 2D isn't going away anytime yet. I like the idea of breaking the packages down rather than one large program with a large price ticket.

wow how much news! very well BIM (European law imposes), excellent support for SVG, a format that I love and ignored by CAD software. Very well the interface improved and improved styles. With Windows version, the number of users will grow significantly.
3D... what a challenge!! in addition to walls and columns with 3D we must compare with elements that until now are new to HD such as slab, stair, roof, beam, mesh and be able to manage the interactions between these elements. In support of BIM, there is also piping and plumbing wants their 3D.
In the architectural design the end customer is very demanding, wants a detailed model, with the panel of the door that "he" has chosen, with the furnishings and objects, he wants the architect to produce renderings, not a rendering but a great rendering! I used archicad daily (from version 4 to 10) for years and I still remember all the problems related to 3D!
Honor to the developers, and good work!

Re: A Peek at the Future: What’s Ahead for HighDesign
Hey All,
I just started using HD17 and I really love it. The single area that I find missing is the ability to add attributes to symbols for management of drawing objects.
I’m hoping in this BIM announcement is the rudimentary support for this ability.
The program is really great and feels very modern.
