HighDesign 1.8 is Now Available

In line with all our major updates, HighDesign 1.8 brings so many improvements and new features you will need a while to appreciate them all. Of course, this is a FREE update.
Now on to the new features. I won't list them all, as there are more than 50, but a quick overview of the major improvements will give you an idea of what this update delivers.

HighDesign 1.8 introduces significant enhancements to the Dimensions tool that allow you to add standard-compliant dimensions and annotations to your projects. In addition to having new marker types, you can now adjust arrow size, witness gaps, arrow gaps, text offset, label frame and angle. All in the current units, no calculator needed.

Adding to an already rich set of editing tools, the new Stretch tool brings new capabilities to the design process and lets you explore new solutions easily and quickly. Drag the selection rectangle over the part of the project you want to modify and stretch it. Done.

New in 1.8 are also many arrowheads and marker types with customizable size to give you more options and ways to communicate your ideas.

This release is also faster than ever in many operations a designer typically performs dozens times a day: redrawing, zooming, selecting, moving and rotating objects. Thanks to these and other optimizations, HighDesign 1.8 easily handles larger projects like urban maps and land surveys.

HighDesign Standard now provides the ability to import and export drawings in the DXF file format, from version 12 to 2006. The conversion to and from DXF files has also been improved with the support for new object types and features.

HighDesign Professional now with DWG support

The Professional Edition sees even more cool new features. First, new in 1.8 Pro is the support for the DWG file format from version 9 up to the latest 2008, both in import and export. Thanks to DWG support, HighDesign 1.8 saves you time and efforts by communicating with almost every CAD application, on your Mac or on your collaborator's PC. Oh, and there's now support for DXB files too.

The Professional edition also enhances the TIFF export capabilities with an all new, full featured options panel that lets you control the image resolution, compression method and color space of your TIFF images.

Now in HighDesign 1.8 Professional you can save time and clicks by using the new presets and styles.

By saving a preset you store the current settings and reuse them every time you need, in any project. You can save presets of your favorite text style, dimensions that must comply with your company standards, or doors and windows that match a manufacturer's dimensions.

Styles let you do even more: you can now organize your project items by their properties and activate any tool with any set of properties with one click. What's more, you can now change the properties of entire classes of objects by modifying their style or by applying a new style. With one click.

If you were waiting for the right moment, now with HighDesign 1.8 there are no more excuses not to upgrade your HighDesign Standard to Professional.

Installing this update
To install HighDesign 1.8, drag the "HighDesign 1.8" folder to your disk. This folder is complete and includes the default symbol library, background patterns and examples. Before removing your old HighDesign folder, make sure you copy any custom symbols and other contents to a safe location. Custom line types, hatch patterns and special preferences are not overwritten or changed by the update as they are saved inside HighDesign's Application Support folder, at ~user/Library/Application Support/ilexsoft/HighDesign/.

Since dimensions now use their own units and precision, older projects opened in 1.8 show dimensions using the general units set in the Preferences window. You may need to modify the project units to display the dimensions correctly.

If older projects open without their symbols, choose File > Select Library and select the corresponding Symbol Library folder.
